“When you go to the grocery store, there’s a whole list of things you can do to save money, but I think it’s really important to think about the environment,” she says.
“When people think of food, they think of stuff that they can get for free.
So we want to protect our food, but we also want to make sure we’re not putting our food out of reach.”
As for the new plan, Ms. Puckett said she believes it will save farmers $1,000 a year.
But, she said, it’s not easy to do without some of the farm-to-table options.
“If I can only go to one place and eat my food there, that’s not worth it,” she said.
“I think that’s the beauty of this, that we have a bunch of choices, we can choose where we want our food to be grown, how we want it cooked, how it’s prepared.”
Ms. Pucksett said while there’s no guarantee that any of these farm-friendly options will become a reality in her lifetime, she is optimistic about their potential.
“If I want to go out to eat with my family, I’ll eat here, but if I want my kids to eat there, I’m going to go to that restaurant,” she explained.
